Nexus, Esports Club provide community for gaming enthusiasts

In the 2010s, the League of Legends Club and Super Smash Brows Club teamed up and brought their passion for competitive video games under one banner—the Esports Club. Since then, the club has leveled up, adding more titles to the mix and growing to more than 60 members. In 2023, they opened their own space, the Nexus Gaming Lounge, a hub for the club and all gamers on campus.

DeBerry Scholars

Apply for DeBerry Civic Scholars by 10/5

Apply for the DeBerry Civic Scholars program to get civically engaged in the North of Howard neighborhood in Rogers Park. The cohort runs from mid-Fall Quarter through the end of the academic year, including weekly meetings and service at the Gale Community Academy and local non-profits. Applications are due October 5.

—a former Australian military intelligence officer and a trusted and highly regarded historian on international, military, and security affairs—on how and why gaining an Australian perspective on these global issues can benefit American scholars, students, industry leaders, and policymakers. ConnectEd Conference

October 13, Norris Center, 9:00 AM-3:30 PM

is the education conference hosted by the Teaching, Learning, and Education Program (TLEP) at ÅÝܽÊÓÆµ University. This annual event is intentionally designed to bring together prospective students, current students, alumni, faculty, and staff to engage with important issues in teaching and learning while building meaningful connections with fellow educators. Our conference name represents a key idea in our program—teaching and learning occur through meaningful connection. We seek to foster deep and sustained connections among everyone who is part of our program while also thinking intentionally about how we connect to disciplinary ideas, understandings, and ways of knowing. The workshops, discussions, and interactive sessions provide inspiration, practical strategies, and opportunities for reflection. ConnectEd is not just an educational conference; it is a community of educators who share a commitment to transformative education.

This year, the theme of the conference is learning as, through, and for joy!

Student Affairs Marketing (SAM) is seeking creative, talented, and motivated students to help tell and share the stories, events, and resources of ÅÝܽÊÓÆµ Student Affairs. SAM has student graphic designers, videographers, photographers, social media coordinators, student feature writers, and more, gaining real work experience in a fun and creative ÅÝܽÊÓÆµ.

Opening Reception for Ann Kogen street photography exhibition: STREET

STREET is a series of candid street photographs from the early 1980s. Striking black and white photographs showcase people on the street, chance encounters, and reflections from windows. Captured on the streets of many cities from Chicago, Illinois, to Cairo, Egypt, the timeless quality of the photographs evokes a sense of common humanity. STREET invites viewers to reflect on the ways photography shapes our understanding of public spaces and the stories embedded within them.


Arts & Crafts Fair Vendor Applications Due 10/6

Ombuds Day Breakfast Open House

Office of the Ombudsperson invites the ÅÝܽÊÓÆµ University community to celebrate their annual Ombuds Day Breakfast Open House – this year highlighting the theme “Ombuds: Empowering Voices, Resolving Challenges.”

Come meet University Ombudsperson Sarah Klaper, Associate Ombudsperson Kamaria Porter, and Program Coordinator Carrie Thomas. Attendees can enjoy breakfast and community while learning more about the services offered by the Office of the Ombudsperson. Kindling Kickoff Kampfire: OUTside INtentions

Kick off the year with the Holistic Wellness & Mindfulness Community! We’re gathering in the Parkes Hall Inner Courtyard for our first to meet fellow community members and set our intentions for the upcoming school year.

On top of a campfire + s’mores, Amelia (one of our student leaders) will guide everyone to write their INs for the year on origami paper cranes 🕊️ and their OUTs on slips of paper we’ll toss into the fire.

We can’t wait to see you there!


mindfulNU Fall Cohort '25

Wednesdays, Oct 1 – Nov 5 | 5–6:30 PM
Retreat Day: Oct 26 | 10:30 AM–2:30 PM

mindfulNU is a six-week program created by ÅÝܽÊÓÆµ students, for ÅÝܽÊÓÆµ students, to help you build a mindfulness practice in a supportive cohort. Each week you’ll experience stillness and movement-based meditations, mindful writing, and group reflection, with space to connect and grow alongside your peers.


Wildcats in Recovery

ÅÝܽÊÓÆµ’s Center for Student Advocacy and Support (CSAW) is now presenting “Wildcats in Recovery” - a Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) that aims to support students in Recovery. This group is open to students who are in (or contemplating) recovery from substance use disorders, process addictions, and eating disorders. We aim to bring students together and provide them with the necessary resources to excel at ÅÝܽÊÓÆµ in their academics and in their recovery.

Find a Spiritual Direction at ÅÝܽÊÓÆµ

Spiritual Direction is a one-on-one space to explore life’s big questions of meaning, purpose, identity, or whatever’s on your mind. It’s open to all backgrounds whether you are religious or not. Sessions last about 45 minutes, once a month, and may include conversation, silence, and reflection. It offers you the chance to pause, pay attention to your inner world, and stay grounded during the rush of college life. Learn more and schedule a preliminary session.

Do you want to improve your overall health and well-being, but just don't know where to start? Wellness Coaching can help!

Wellness Coaching is a collaborative, non-judgmental process that can help you identify and achieve your health and wellness goals, balance dimensions of health and wellness, and learn practical skills to improve overall well-being. Coaches work with you to build on your strengths and support you in creating sustainable plans to achieve your wellness goals. 


 

CSAW's Opioid Overdose Prevention and Naloxone Trainings

October 29, 2025, 6:00-7:00 PM, Searle Hall 3.220

This one-hour training is for students who are interested in being trained to administer Narcan (naloxone). Attendees will learn how to recognize signs of an opioid overdose, identify when it is appropriate to use Narcan, learn how to administer Narcan to an individual they believe is experiencing an overdose, and identify additional emergency steps to take. All attendees will receive a two-pack of Narcan upon completion of the training.


Red Watch Band Alcohol Bystander Intervention Trainings

Have you ever had to help a drunk friend but weren’t sure exactly what you were doing? You’ll also learn about how alcohol affects our physiology and behavior, signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning and the truth behind common alcohol-related myths.

The  and Student Affairs have launched a new program that introduces students to the Litowitz Center’s mission of harnessing the power of disagreement for good. Cohorts of students will participate in sessions from expert facilitators on topics like active listening through improv to argument mapping through a game developed by a cognitive scientist. All undergraduates can participate, and those who complete the program will earn a certificate in enlightened disagreement sponsored by the Kellogg School of Management.  or  by 9/26.
